Parc du Château de Groussay in Montfort-l'Amaury

The Château de Groussay was built in 1815 for the Duchesse de Charost, daughter of Mme de Tourzel, governess to the children of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette.

Purchase in 1938 by the inspirated aesthete Charles de Beistegui, Groussay was enlarged in 1952 with the addition of two wings, one leading to the theatre and one to the follies created as a resultof the collaboration of the artists Emilio Terry ans Alexandre Serebriakoff and the architects Desbrosses and Costi.

The transformation of the château and the creation of the follies continued until the death of Charles Beistegui in 1970, stretching the length of the promenade and forming a veritable backdrop, in the style of XVIIIth century Anglo-Chinese gardens : an aviary, an obelisk, a Tartar tent, a labyrinth with temple, an outdoor theatre, a Palladian bridge, a pyramid, a Temple of Love, a Chinese pagoda and an observatory high yp on a column.

In addition to these follies, visitors can stroll amongst the animals, lose themselves in the pleasure grden leading to the labyrinth temple or visit the outdoor theatre.
